AVG Free 2014 - AVG is very popular for their free version. The free version provides advanced antivirus and spyware scanning on your PC. It should be noted that AVG is for PC only.

AVG Antivirus 2014 - Antivirus 2014 is the entry level paid AVG product. It provides additional features not found in the free version. These features include a scan of files before you open them for additional protection, scanning social media links to prevent social media viruses, and mobile device protection.

AVG Internet Security 2014 - Internet Security 2014 includes all the features found in Antivirus 2014 with additional features such as a firewall and optimized video streaming for faster movie downloads online!

AVG Premium Security 2014 - Includes all of the features of Internet Security 2014 with additional features such as a PC Optimization and proactive identity theft recognition.
Versions:

ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus 2013 - ZoneAlarm has gone to a free edition as their entry level product. The free version does have a lot of functionality though. It includes standard antivirus scans but also has a firewall, an anti-phishing toolbar, and file scanning on downloads.

ZoneAlarm Internet Security 2013 - Internet Security edition includes the same features of the Free Antivirus but with additional features including parental controls, a live chat support option and an increase in antivirus dictionary update speed (from 24 hours to 1 hour).

ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 2013 - Extreme Security includes the same features of Internet Security but also comes with a virtual browsing sandbox and a PC Tuneup option.
Strengths:

AVG is a super popular antivirus program and AVG leverages that popularity to your advantage. Any new threat found by an AVG customer gets pushed out to warn everyone using AVG with the Community Protection Network.
AVG LinkScanner Surf Shield checks every suspect website before viewing to prevent malware from executing.
Proactively checks links on Facebook and Twitter to prevent social media malware.
Strengths:

Most free versions of antivirus do not come with a firewall and anti-phishing technologies. Those are both nice options to have.
ZoneAlarm Extreme Security has a virtual browsing sandbox which is a personal favorite of ours. We like antivirus solutions that provide a browsing experience where you can't mess up your system if you accidentally visit a malicious website. For this reason it's worth the upgrade.
Perhaps the most creative antivirus feature in the space, ZoneAlarm will monitor your credit score and alert you if there are changes to your credit files.

No. We can't find a virtual sandbox option in AVG.

Yes. There is a Browser Virtualization feature with ZoneAlarm.
PC Optimization:

Yes. AVG Quick Tune degragments the hard drive and cleans up the registry. AVG Accelerator optimizes file compression for increased internet browsing speeds. AVG System tools optimizes PC resources.
PC Optimization:

Yes. ZoneAlarm cleans and organizes the data on the PC. Some of the features include Registry repair and defrag and a local disk defrag.
Backups / Online Storage:

Yes. Although not in the product feature list, AVG offers a service called LiveKive which provides online backup for free up to 5GB.

Yes. ZoneAlarm has online backup functionality.
Parental Control:

Yes. For $.99 extra, AVG Family Safety can be accessed which provides in-depth features such as internet scheduling, monitoring for cyber-bullying, tracking social media activity, blocking adult websites, and more.

Yes. Adult websites can be filtered out. There is an ability to create a custom list of websites to block. Internet usage can be controlled for kids. ZoneAlarm can even block games that are rated too mature for children.
Chat / IM Protection:

Yes. AVG Online Shield monitors links sent within chat venues. Files sent within ICQ, MSN and Yahoo! Instant Messenger.
Chat / IM Protection:

No. We don't see chat monitoring protection with ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 2013.
