Dreamhost does support SFTP. You have to set it up though. Under users -> manage users in the dream host control panel you must choose SFTP account. You will not be able to FTP in from then on. The port will be 22. Use SFTP for good after doing this! | FTP Info:
By default, GoDaddy suggests connecting via port 21 on Filezilla. The problem with this suggestion is it is not secure. Request SSH from GoDaddy and use port 22 (SFTP). |

Opinion:
The biggest advantage of Dreamhost has to be the customer service. Though the actual hosting is not the cheapest, their customer service is not outsourced and that can be very important when you are trying to debug an issue keeping your website from running optimally. | Opinion:
GoDaddy hosts millions of websites. This causes problems. FTP disconnects very often. This is extremely frustrating if you are editing your website Filezilla or WinSCP. Their control panel is custom and it's a confusing mess to navigate. CPanel is far superior but they don't use CPanel. Their marketing is really good though. Be warned. Danica Patrick and Jillian Michaels won't show up to fix your website when you are experiencing problems. This is our honest opinion. We don't get paid to promote or slam GoDaddy in comparison to any other web host. We respect Bob Parsons for turning GoDaddy into a huge success but it is very large and bloated. There are better web hosts out there for reliability and customer experience. |
